Cuelgas de Castro was a Lipan Apache that was chosen to lead the Apaches and as time
went on other Apache leaders such as, Juan and Ramon Castro, were asked for their
assistance in protection from unlawful settlers or other warring Indians that had been
displaced by the United States government in the east. more…
General Council Meetings
Lipan Apache Band of Texas
The Lipan Apache Band of Texas geographic location encompasses a large part of Texas that extends from El Paso northeast to Lubbock extending southeast to Austin extending down south to Victoria extending southwest to Brownsville and back north to El Paso , Texas . The 2000 U.S. Census identified that many of our members lived in the nation’s poorest counties located on the Texas-Mexico Border ( Hidalgo , El Paso , and Starr Counties ) and California ’s (Kings, and Fresno Counties ) counties. The Lipan Apache Band of Texas holds General Council meetings on a regular basis but, due to migration many members are unable to attend the General Council meetings so the General Council is trying to resolve this issue by when it can to Skype the meetings and or possibly post on a YouTube channel for all members to view.
