Lipan Apache Women Defense (El Calaboz Rancheria) organized formally in the summer of 2007 as a
result of a decades and centuries-long struggle for recognition, self-determination, and human rights for
indigenous peoples related through ancient lineal ties, through customary law, and through aboriginal
title to lands along the Rio Grande River.

Master Sgt. Chuck Boers has more than 20 years of service in the military and says, "It is part of our
